The Science and Art of Visual Communication

Author, Broadcaster, Operatic Director and Medical Historian

Dr Jonathan Miller has had a distinguished career in many different fields: author, lecturere, television producer and presenter, theatre, film and operatic director. Few people realise, howver, that Dr Miller began his career as a scientist: he studied natural sciences and qualified as a doctor of medicine. Drawing on this mulit-disciplinary background Dr Miller's talk, "From the Look of It", concentrates on the importance of the gaze in painting. Using paintings in general and portraiture in particular, he will discuss representations of 'the look' in art.
