This talk considers the background to the current difficulties of global fisheries. It looks first at the resources in the pristine oceans, and traces the development of pressures on commercial stocks. It then turns to the present situation, discusses the future of wild fishing, and examines the various attempts to manage stocks, drawing on examples from several parts of the world.
