Summer Visits of the 197th Session (2017-2018)
Scottish Ambulance Service
National Risk and Resilience Department
On Saturday 14th July 2018, at 2:30pm
The second summer visit for Fellows will be on Saturday 14th July at 2.30pm. and will be a unique opportunity to visit the “National Risk and Resilience Department” (NRRD) and the “Special Operations Response Team” arm of the Scottish Ambulance Service (SORT). This follows on from last summer's very successful visit to the SE Edinburgh HQ of the Scottish Ambulance Service at the Peffermill Industrial Estate.
This year's visit, which should last for approximately 2 hours, will include, an introduction to SORT, who they are and what they do, followed by a PowerPoint presentation.
We will then be handed over to the subject matter experts who will explain in detail the kit and equipment that would be deployed at specific jobs and finish with a practical demonstration that would hopefully explain what SORT is all about,
The staff have advised that as they are a working station there is a possibility that they could be deployed to a job at any stage of the visit, which would unfortunately bring the “show n tell” to an abrupt end. There may also be some BBC camera crews there as they are filming some time in July for a TV documentary going out next spring.
The location is the Newbridge industrial estate. The ambulance service instructions to reach the site are, “come off Newbridge roundabout and immediately turn left onto Cliftonhall Road (the BP petrol station is on your left) continue along this road for approximately 1km, pass Tesla cars on your left then under the old arched railway bridge and continue 200 metres past the parcel delivery company DPD. We are next left, there's an intercom system on the gate”.
Unfortunately this event had to be cancelled at short notice due to Donald Trump's visit to Scotland.
