Prof Niamh Nic Daeid has been involved in forensic science education, training and casework for over 30 years. During that time, she has seen the rapid evolution in forensic science and the rise of its importance across the criminal justice system. Far from being a passive observer, she has both led revolutionary research activities and been critical of persistent scientific deficiencies. She works across all parts of the criminal justice system at the very highest level in the UK and overseas, providing strategic direction for forensic science research and emphasising the importance of underpinning forensic science evidence with robust science and clear communication to the Courts. She has received many awards for her work including most recently in 2026, the Adelaide Medal awarded by the International Association of Forensic Science in recognition of her research leadership and its positive impact on forensic science at a global level.
